'Explosions' as firefighters battle Burnaby transit bus fire

Police have closed streets in all directions in the area of Hurst Street and Sussex Avenue in Burnaby as firefighters mop up a transit bus fire Friday morning.

Streets are closed in all directions near the intersection of Hurst Street and Sussex Avenue in Burnaby after a transit bus fire Friday morning.

Emergency crews were called to the area shortly after 9 a.m., according to Burnaby RCMP.

Because of downed power lines, BC Hydro has also been called to the area, police said.

TransLink said there were no injuries and the incident is under investigation. 

Mark O'Meara, who took a video of the blaze, said there were "explosions happening" and "live power lines" dangling. 

Power was shut down in the area at 9:18 a.m., and crews are onsite, according to BC Hydro's online outage list.
