It is Environment Week in Burnaby, and local individuals and businesses are being rewarded for their eco-friendly efforts.
The winners of the City of Burnaby's Environment Awards include five Environment Award and eight Environmental Star recipients.
Dave and Jane Burkholder will receive an award for community stewardship for their work with the Byrne Creek Streamkeepers Society.
The project team that worked on Harmony House, at 7990 Joffre St., will receive an award for planning and development.
The project team that worked on UniverCity child-care centre will also receive an award for planning and development.
Burnaby North Secondary student Jennifer Hao will receive the Environment Award for Youth. Cariboo Hill Secondary student Kayla Isomura will also receive the Environment Award for Youth.
Kensington Cleaners and Laundry will receive the Environmental Star for Business Stewardship.
Nick Kvenich, with the Eagle Creek Streamkeepers Society, will receive an Environmental Star for Community Stewardship.
John Templeton with the Stoney Creek Environment Committee will also receive a star for community stewardship.
The Burnaby committee of the Vancouver Area Cycling Coalition will receive a star for green choices.
High school students with the Burnaby Youth Sustainability Network - Angela Andrievska, Ant-te Chu, Tomas Lang and Catherina Pan - will each receive an Environmental Star for Youth.
The awards are to be presented at the annual ceremony, held at the Burnaby Lake Rowing Pavilion on June 10.
