The sky's the limit for the new Sovereign tower at Willingdon Avenue and Kingsway.

Bosa Properties celebrated the start of construction of the 500-foot mixed-use residential tower at a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2014.

The tower's 202 condominium units sold out in one day last February.

Sales of units totaled more than $98 million worth of real estate, according to a press release from the company.

The tower will also include Starwood Hotels and Resorts' Element Vancouver Metrotown, a 169-room eco-conscious hotel to be managed by Atlific Hotels. It is slated to open in 2014.

The tower also includes 90,000 sq.ft. of retail space.

Mayor Derek Corrigan was on hand at the ceremony. The mayor and Burnaby council and staff have worked with the developers to come up with a design that would be beneficial to the area, he said in the press release.
