A $2,000 reward for arrest of illegal Burnaby dentist

The College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. will give $2,000 to anyone who gives information on Tung Sheng (David) Wu that leads to his arrest.

The College of Dental Surgeons of B.C. will give $2,000 to anyone who gives information on Tung Sheng (David) Wu that leads to his arrest.

Wu was operating an illegal dentistry practice out of his home in Burnaby and in late May, when a complaint about his treatment sparked an investigation, has since led to a permanent injunction and warrant for his arrest.

The illegal dentist did not appear at court proceedings on Monday that found he did breach a 2003 order prohibiting him from being a dentist. Authorities are working on tracking him down so he can appear for a sentencing hearing.

"Any person harbouring Mr. Wu can contact us in confidence," said Jerome Marburg, the college's registrar and CEO, at a press conference on Thursday. "We will apprehend him without need to reveal where, or with whom, he was staying. The important thing is that Mr. Wu appears before the court to answer for his actions."

On Wednesday, Aug. 14, the college seized Wu's 2013 Acura SUV in Richmond and has started to search the contents of it, which will be used as evidence in court, according to Marburg. The vehicle was about to get shipped to Toronto.

"I am not permitted to provide a detailed inventory of what we have found, but can say that we have recovered documents, personal effects and a large quantity of dental supplies," he added

Investigators are currently working on various tips and continue to pursue the whereabouts of Wu who may be attempting to flee Canada.

Marburg is still asking Wu's former 1,500 patients to get checked for Hepatitus C, Hepatitus B and HIV as his practice did not meet the college's infection prevention and control requirements.

Anyone with information on Wu's whereabouts is asked to contact the college at 604-209-1708 or to call the police.
