Police are investigating a shooting that took place early Sunday morning in the 4400 block of Carleton Avenue. As of yet, a victim has not turned up in the investigation.

Police are trying to determine the circumstances of an early morning shooting that, at this point, does not have a victim.

Burnaby RCMP responded to the 4400 block of Carleton Avenue on Sunday around 5:30 a.m. after neighbours called in about shots fired in the area. Upon arrival, police found spent bullet casings outside of a residence.

Two men who are known to police were located nearby and arrested, but were later released without charges, despite still being considered people of interest. Cops spent the evening trying to figure out who the suspects may have been shooting at.

“There was no victim located at the scene,” said Staff Sgt. Ghalib Bhayani. “All the local hospitals have been notified to contact us if somebody turns up with gunshot wounds.

“We’re hoping that there’s no victim, but we’re also very concerned that something like this would happen in a quiet neighbourhood like that.”

Until about 1 p.m. on Monday, police had taped off one residence as officers combed for clues inside.

“We don’t believe it was a home invasion, but at this time, our serious crimes unit has conduct of the investigation,” said Bhayani. “They’ve been working all night on this.”

Bhayani said the owners of the home are cooperating with police as they tried to find the connection between the property and the suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call Burnaby RCMP at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
