Burnaby RCMP is investigating an accident involving a bus that sent a pedestrian to hospital in critical condition last night.
At about 10 p.m. on Aug. 29, a 30-year-old woman was crossing Willingdon Avenue at Maywood Street when a Coast Mountain community shuttle bus struck her in the crosswalk.
The woman suffered serious injuries and was sent to hospital, where she remains today in critical condition, Cpl. Dave Reid of the Burnaby RCMP told the NOW.
"She was crossing at the time ... and apparently with the signal," he added.
While the investigation is ongoing this morning, police are citing bad weather conditions as one of the factors in the accident. The pedestrian was also wearing dark clothing at the time she was struck, which likely played a part in the incident, Reid said.
"It's a combination of about 30 different factors, but yes, it's the time of night, the weather, ... it's dark, it's rainy," he said.
Police are waiting to contact the pedestrian's family before they release her name to the public, Reid said.
"The investigation will determine whether or not charges will be recommended or laid but a lot of factors will be going into that," he added.
