Could Metrotown Superstore be next to sell wine?

Imagine the day when you’ll be able to pick up a bottle of wine from your local Superstore.

This idea has become a reality for folks living south of the Fraser River. The South Surrey Real Canadian Superstore began selling B.C. wines on Nov. 15, a move that was applauded by company management.

“British Columbians come to our stores looking for outstanding flavours and meal inspiration,” said Greg Ramier, senior vice-president, Loblaw Companies Ltd., in a press release. “Today we offer them increased convenience and choice with a wide selection of B.C. wine on our shelves.”

But don’t expect to see wines stocked on the shelves of the Metrotown Superstore just yet.

Loblaw has plans to start selling wine in six more stores in the coming months, but it has yet to confirm which locations will be chosen, according to an email from Loblaw public relations.

Wine in grocery stores is one part of the provincial government’s overhaul of B.C. liquor laws, which began with a policy review back in 2013.
