Council approved a cash-in-lieu contribution of about $6.6 million as the community benefit from the second phase of the Solo District project, at its July 8 meeting.
When all four phases of the development were first up for council consideration, the community benefit was estimated at a total of $31.6 million.
The development on Skyline Drive includes four residential apartment towers, an 11-storey office building, ground-oriented commercial retail and an outdoor public plaza space.
Deer Lake centre gets upgrades
Council approved $300,000 in funding for capital upgrades at Deer Lake centre.
The funding is broken down to include: additional T-bar and ceiling upgrades for $100,000; ongoing washroom, hallway and stairwell refurbishments for $100,000; $40,000 for handicapped openers for the glass entry doors; and an exhaust fan replacement for $60,000.
The funding is for the maintenance and modernization of the centre and was included in the 2013 facility replacement and capital improvement component of the 2013 to 2017 capital programs, according to Denise Jorgensen, director of finance.
The city bought the site in 1993. It is managed by Colliers International.
Christmas toy run planning begins It's a little early to start thinking about the "most wonderful time of the year," but council recently approved road closures for an annual Christmas event.
The 35th annual Christmas Toy Run provides a lot of toys for families around the Lower Mainland. The run starts at Coquitlam Centre, travels west through Port Moody and ends up going through Burnaby and culminates in Vancouver.
Council approved road closures for all the intersecting streets on the north side of Hastings Street between Inlet Drive and Boundary Road, from 10 a.m. until the end of the parade around noon.
$100K for storm main upgrades Council approved a $100,000 expenditure for a rehabilitation capital project.
The engineering department required the funding for its ongoing storm main rehabilitation project.
The expenditure will come out of the general replacement reserves, which has sufficient funds, according to the staff report.
