Makeup artist Yasmine Khan is focusing on the latest fall runway-inspired trends for her next makeup artistry class with the Burnaby school district’s continuing education program.
The class, which starts on Sept. 21, runs evening and weekends.
“We start from the base up. You learn everything from the fundamentals, then we transition into photography and fashion by the end of it, and we get into more advanced skills,” Khan said. “It’s a great opportunity for people to get a high-quality program.”
The course costs $2,800, but Khan said comparable programs can cost much more.
“This is actually a certified diploma program,” she said. “We’re only able to do it because it’s Burnaby continuing education, so everybody can learn different trades without breaking the bank.”
According to Khan, who does makeup for fashion shoots, weddings and ad campaigns, the course prepares people to work in the industry. Entry-level makeup artists can make $16 an hour, and professionals can charge up to $1,000 a day for on-set work and even more for ad campaigns.
For more information on the course, go to burnabycce.ca or call 604-296-6901. There’s also an open info session on Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. at 4247 Lougheed Hwy. on the upper level of the building.
