The City of Burnaby held a series of outdoor drawing workshops for people hoping to try their hand at art.

The sessions, dubbed Art in the Park, ran this July and August in six local parks. Each session was lead by a guest artist, who taught people how to draw nature, and more than 200 participants came out.

"It was the first time we tried it, and it was very successful, so we will definitely do it again next summer," said Shelley Twist, the city's community arts coordinator.

In the past, the city has held public arts activities and performances in the parks, but this year they wanted to offer people a more intimate, hands-on visual experience.

The sessions were free and open to all ages. To get involved in next year's art in the park programs, keep an eye on the City of Burnaby's website at www.burnaby.ca. Click on Things to Do, and select Arts and Heritage, then Community Arts.
