Christmas Countdown in Burnaby: T minus 11 days

It’s not Christmas without a choir – or without a sense of humour. Enjoy both with today’s Christmas Countdown pick.

Allow the singers of musica intima - including Burnaby's Steve Maddock, at far right - to get you into the holiday spirit.

It’s not Christmas without a choir – or without a sense of humour.

Enjoy both with today’s Christmas Countdown pick.

Today: T-minus-11 days!

The acclaimed musica intima ensemble returns with Ding Dong, its irreverent take on the Christmas concert, tonight (Thursday, Dec. 14) at the Anza Club.

“Stepping outside of traditional holiday choral traditions, musica intima performs popular and grumpy seasonal tunes that span 100 years. This is a blues-jazz-folk inspired show, with repertoire that includes Men of Snow (Ingrid Michaelson), Winter Song (Sara Bareilles/Ingrid Michaelson), and Rebel Jesus (Jackson Browne), among others, to help ring in the season. The ensemble performs new arrangements accompanied by a jazz trio,” a write-up about the show says.

Sounds fun! Also, note that Burnaby’s very own Steve Maddock – the popular jazz and musical theatre performer – is part of the group.

It’s on at the Anza Club, 3 West Eighth Ave. in Vancouver.

Tickets are $30 adults, $25 seniors and $20 students.

And note: If you miss Ding Dong, you can catch musica intima right here in Burnaby on Dec. 16 with Nativité, their traditional Christmas concert, at Brentwood Church. See www.musicaintima.org.
