WHAT’S UP?

The Burnaby Artisan Farmers’ Market has returned for the spring and summer season. It’s on in the north parking lot at Burnaby City Hall, 4949 Canada Way, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. every Saturday from May through October.

WHAT DOES IT OFFER?

The market is your one-stop shopping destination for all things foodie, with locally grown produce (both conventional and organic) along with a host of other food and drink options – including seafoods, sausage, meats, perogies, cheeses, wine and more.

Crafters and artisans are also on hand to sell their wares, and market organizers always work hard to make it a true community destination – with a kids’ play tent, a used book exchange, games table, a seating and reading area (with newspapers) and live musical entertainment.

You can also eat on site, sampling from a variety of yummy food truck options.

The vendor list may change weekly; you can find the updated list for the week you’re interested in at www.artisanmarket.ca.

WHO SHOULD GO?

Anyone and everyone. The markets are always family-friendly, and the site is easily accessible by car and bus (with level, paved access for strollers, wheelchairs and other mobility devices), so there’s no reason to stay home.

Kids will especially have a good time on weekends when special events are planned – like Mother's Day card-making this weekend (May 13), Father’s Day card-making on June 17, the Teddy Bear Picnic on July 15, the Zucchini Races on Aug. 12, the Dog Days Fashion Show on Sept. 16 and the Harvest Festival on Oct. 21.

The market also accepts volunteers – you can apply online at www.artisanmarkets.ca/volunteer-opportunities/.
