Things to do for B.C. Day in Burnaby

Fun and entertainment all day at Burnaby Village Museum
BC DAY
Weaving Squamish stories: Norman Guerrero from the Capilano Squamish Nation demonstrates Squamish stem/twine weaving at Burnaby Village Museum for last year’s B.C. Day festivities.

There’s something on offer for everyone at the Burnaby Village Museum B.C. Day festivities this year.

The museum is open 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, marking B.C. Day with a full day of family fun and entertainment.

Along with a market (see page 11), there’s a day full of activities and entertainment for all ages.

Children’s games and activities run in the school yard all day long, while Russet the Scarecrow and the Squares barbershop quartet will provide roving entertainment.

History buffs can meet at the main gate for a Ladies of the Lake walking tour at 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m., or visit Stride Studios to learn more about Burnaby’s farming history as part of the ongoing Homegrown Harvest exhibitions. You can also swing by the meadow to see what’s growing in Burnaby’s backyards.

Visitors can check out the historic electric tram in the Interurban tram barn, check out the platen press in action at the Burnaby Post, or watch the blacksmith at work in Wagner’s Blacksmith Shop.

Swing by the real estate office to check out First Nations weavers at work in Weaving Squamish Stories, or pick up a clue sheet at Stride Studios to join in a day-long scavenger hunt activity.

The museum is at 6501 Deer Lake Ave. Gate admission is free, and rides on the heritage carousel are $2.55.

Check out www.burnabyvillagemuseum.ca for all the details and a full schedule of the day’s events.
