Needles and yarn are provided for first-timers, and experienced knitters are available to help. This is a free, drop-in program.

Get rid of clutter at Cariboo Hill Secondary School’s dry grad bottle and clothing fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 13. Acceptable items of clothing donation are: clothing for men/women/children; accessories (belts/hats/scarves/gloves); purses/wallets/backpacks/bags; shoes and boots; and any linen (blankets, bedding, towels, tablecloths, pillows, curtains). It’s all taking place at the school (8580 16th Ave.), in the back parking lot off Armstrong Street, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Take in a live performance at Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre on Saturday, Jan. 13 as part of its Hastings Park 1942 exhibit program. Participants have a personal relationship or family history connected to the Japanese Canadian incarceration experience, according to an online write-up about the event. “Explore themes of trust, storytelling, loss and dispossession while witnessing a live hair cutting performance.” The show is on from 1 to 4 p.m. at 6688 Southoaks Cres. Admission is by donation.

Head to Deer Lake Gallery (6584 Deer Lake Ave.) on Saturday, Jan. 13 for the opening reception of Bodies of Salt, a solo exhibition by Amanda Smart.
