Attend Knit2gether at the Tommy Douglas library branch (7311 Kingsway) on Saturday, March 10. Enjoy a couple hours, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., of knitting and conversation. Crochet, stitch and chat with like-minded people. This informal, friendly group welcomes everyone of all ages and skill levels. Knitting needles and yarn are available for first-timers. Hear from artist Mark Bowen at an artist talk at Deer Lake Gallery (6584 Deer Lake Ave.) on Saturday, March 10. Bowen is one of three artists who make up Construction Abstraction, a collection of works that visualize the process in addressing the thematic meeting point of urban spaces, industrialization, natural elements and social identity. Admission is free. The event is on from 2 to 3 p.m.

Take in the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra on Sunday, March 11 at the Michael J. Fox Theatre, 7373 Macpherson Ave. The 2 p.m. concert will feature Mozart and Beethoven, with Ryan Wang on piano and Yenny Lee, a mezzo-soprano. Tickets range from $25 to $55. Drop in to the Nikkei National Museum and Cultural Centre on Sunday, March 11 for a children’s musical instrument making workshop. The event, on from noon till 4 p.m., will have Juno award winner Keri Latimer on hand. All ages are welcome. You’re asked to register in advance so enough materials can be prepared. Watch the 2018 Vancouver goalball grand slam this weekend at Fortius Sport & Health. The three-day event will showcase nine teams from B.C., Alberta, the U.S.A., Japan and Puerto Rico. They’ll all be competing for the $5,000 grand prize and the championship title. Goalball is a Paralympic sport designed for athletes who are blind or partially sighted, involving a ball that has bells inside of it, two nets, tactile floor markings, throwing at speeds up to 60 km/hr and diving to stop the ball – blindfolded.
