1. Get inspired at Deer Lake Gallery by visiting the Best of B.C. Photography exhibition, part of the Capture Photography Festival, hosted by Burnaby Arts Council. You’ll see top works from the Professional Photographers of Canada who, every year, hosts a juried exhibition where photographers challenge themselves to fine tune their skills and produce their best work. The exhibition opens Thursday and runs until April 28. Admission is free.

2. Curious about the watch house built near Burnaby’s Trans Mountain terminal? Come to the community day at the watch house on Sunday, hosted by Burnaby Residents Opposing Kinder Morgan Expansion (BROKE) and Protect the Inlet, for a discussion about how the pipeline is affecting neighbourhoods. There will be games for children, art activities, and snacks at the soccer field just west of Forest Grove Park (8505 Forest Grove Dr.) from 1 to 4 p.m. For more information, find the BROKE event on Facebook.

3. Pour some maple syrup on your golden, fluffy stack at the pancake breakfast at Jubilee United Church (7591 Gray Ave.) on Saturday morning. There will be sausages and all the fixings served up on the spot. Adults pay $7, Scouts and Girl Guides in uniform, and children six to 12 pay $3, but it’s free for kids under six.  Funds go to support the church and community projects. A tasty way to start your weekend.

4. Go bargain-shopping at the Giant flea market on Saturday at the Maywood Community School (4567 Imperial St.) near Metrotown. It’s 50 cents to get in, but there are lots of deals inside. There will be door prizes and a concession. Tables are $10. Call 604-296-9022 for more or just drop in. It's on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

5. Swing over to the Confederation Community Centre (4585 Albert St.) Saturday night to the B.C. Swing Dance Club. There’s a free beginner dance lesson at all of their dances from 8 to 9 p.m. Call 778-242-0378 for details.

6. Get off the couch, enjoy the sunshine, and try a new sport at the South Burnaby Lawn Bowls Club on Saturday. There’s an open house from 4 to 6 p.m. at 4000 Kingsway (at Inman) to give you a taste of what lawn bowling is all about. It’s free to attend, and no experience is necessary. Free parking is available. Visit southburnabylawnbowlingclub.ca for more.
