Our top 5 things to do this long weekend

The Burnaby Central Railway takes to the tracks at Confederation Park.

1. All aboard the first train of the season at Burnaby Central Railway (120 North Willingdon Ave), and ride one of the miniature trains made by the British Columbia Society of Model Engineers. The first one leaves the station at 11 a.m on Friday, but they are open all weekend from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tickets are $3.50 for one 10- to 15-minute ride.

2. Take a friend to the Luminescence III Exhibition at the Deer Lake Gallery (6584 Deer Lake Ave) on now until April 7. Check out the interactive virtual painting with VR4U, open on Saturdays from noon to 4 p.m. Adults can look at the MELT installation, which simulates the female sexual orgasm with an interactive infinity mirror made with neon LED rope. The rest of the show is family-friendly. Admission is by donation.

3. Dive in and search for Easter eggs at the C.G. Brown Memorial Pool (3702 Kensington Ave.) on Sunday April 1 from noon  to 1:30 p.m. Children seven years old and younger must be accompanied by an adult. Cost is $1 per person. Bring your bathing suit!

4. If you missed the March Break movie promotion, take the kids to Metrotown (4700 Kingsway) Saturday morning for Cineplex Family Favourites. Movies are only $2.99 and a portion of the proceeds goes to supporting WE Charity.

5. But don’t forget to get outside this weekend! Saturday afternoon’s weather forecast is calling for a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 11 degrees. Grab a Frisbee and bring your dog to one of Burnaby’s many parks with an off-leash area, including Barnet Marine Park, Confederation Park, Robert Burnaby Park, Malvern Park and Warner Loat Park.
