Christmas Fun Fair, 11:15 a.m. to 2:15 p.m. Vancouver Urban Ministries fundraiser at the Wesburn Community Centre, 4781 Parkwood Ave. There will be 25 booths for various games all created and run by the high schoolers of Burnaby. Event also features a food concession selling pizza, samosas, chips and drinks, and an item signed by Michael Buble up for silent auction. All proceeds towards the ministries' after-school one-on-one therapeutic program for underprivileged children with learning disabilities.

Finding Japan - Early Canadian Encounters with Asia, presentation by Anne Shannon, 3 to 4 p.m. Nikkei Centre, 6688 Southoaks Cresc. Finding Japan looks in the opposite direction to early Canadian engagement westward across the Pacific - when it began, who went and why. Seen through the eyes of a colourful cast of characters, the book opens a window on the tumultuous period in Canadian, Japanese and Pacific history between the mid-19th and mid-20th centuries - with some surprises. Annual Art Show and Auction, Confederation Park elementary school gym, 4715 Pandora St. 6 to 10 p.m. The only fine arts school in Burnaby is holding its annual art show and auction with original art works for sale created by students from Kindergarten to Grade 7 and local artisans. Various artistic mediums are represented. Artwork is professionally framed, or matted and packaged. Live and silent auction bidding for a variety of artwork, entertainment, and home accessories. Entertainment is provided by musical trio The Cupcake Affair. This is an adult only event. Tickets are $10 (which includes a beverage) and may be purchased from the school office or at the door.

Bill Jeffries: The Lougheed Drive-in Swap Meet in summer 1978, 7:30 p.m., Bob Prittie Metrotown library, 6100 Willingdon St. In the summer of 1978, Bill Jeffries photographed the vendors and wares at the Lougheed Drive-In Swap Meet in Burnaby. Join Bill for the opening of his photographic exhibition, curated by the Burnaby Art Gallery, along with guest speakers from the Burnaby Archives and Burnaby Village Museum who will talk about the history of the drive-in site.
