Several long-term residents of Delta are making a splash at Vancouver's Metro Theatre in Ken Ludwig's comedy Lend Me A Tenor.

Kat Stewart, Steve Dotto, Jenna Grubaugh and Catherine Morrison all play prominent roles in the show, none more so than Morrison who directs the fast-paced farce.

"Comedy is hard, harder than you think," says Morrison, who recently moved to Ladner.

"Casting is everything, and if you get it right, 80 per cent of your job as a director is done," says Morrison, who began her directing career over two decades ago.

Lend Me A Tenor is set in the 1930s in Cleveland, where the Cleveland Grand Opera Company is celebrating its 10th anniversary by bringing in the world's greatest living tenor to sing the title role of Otello at a gala. Things head off the rails when the tenor's temperamental wife shows up, gets jealous of the attention being shown her husband by the company manager's (Dotto) daughter (Grubaugh), and throws her husband into a tailspin.

Stewart, who plays the sultry, oversexed soprano in the opera, throws oil on the fire by trying to sleep her way to the top.

Classic farce ensues with mistaken identity, double and even triple entendres, doors opening and closing at a frantic pace, and the audience laughing until their sides hurt.

Stewart has appeared in several Metro shows as well as Sidekick Players Club productions in Delta. Grubaugh is appearing in her first show at Metro, but has also worked with Sidekick.

Dotto makes a rare return to the stage. Best known for his long-running TV show Dotto Tech, Dotto has also occasionally worked with Sidekick, but his history with the Metro Theatre goes back to the 1970s.

Metro is celebrating its 50th anniversary with Lend Me A Tenor, which runs Thursday to Saturday until Dec. 1. There are also matinees on Sunday, Nov. 18 and Sunday, Nov. 25.
