Burnaby musicians will be in the spotlight for a special memorial tribute concert.

The Vancouver Academy of Music Symphony Orchestra is presenting Eternal Light on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 7: 30 p.m. at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver.

The concert is a tribute commemorating the 10th anniversary of the death of maestro Wallace Leung, a conductor, music director, violinist and teacher who died suddenly at the age of 33.

"Wallace Leung was a remarkable musician, whose passion and dedication made an indelible contribution to the lives of his students, friends and colleagues," said Joseph Elworthy, a Burnaby native and executive director of

the Vancouver Academy of Music, in a press release.

"He accomplished more in his short years than many achieve in a lifetime, and I am very grateful we have the opportunity to pay tribute to his legacy."

To honour his legacy, the young rising stars of the orchestra will perform a program of meaningful works under the baton of recently appointed music director Leslie Dala - including Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 and Brahms' Violin Concerto.

The concert will open with the orchestra's premiere of John Estacio's Eternal Light, a work that was written in memory of Leung. Elworthy will perform the piece's opening and closing cello solo.

Also onstage for the occasion will be Burnaby's Vivian Liu, a 14year-old violinist who has already appeared as a soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.

Tickets for the concert are $10 regular, or $6 for students and seniors, and can be purchased at www. vancouveracademyofmusic. com or at the door on the evening of the concert.
