PHOTOGRAPHIC ALLEGORIES

If you love photographic art, don’t forget to drop in to Deer Lake Gallery to check out the current exhibition, Allegory.

It features the talents of photographers Julie Prescott and Kenneth Gillespie, and it’s running as part of the 2017 Capture Photography Festival.

A write-up about the show notes that the two artists have a commonality in that they “both establish a link between the landscape’s reality and that imagined by its conceiver; the hidden meaning, or allegory. Both challenge the subject from completely different perspectives.”

Intrigued? The gallery is at 6584 Deer Lake Ave. It’s open Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 4 p.m.

DANCER IN GISELLE

A young dancer from Burnaby will be onstage in Coastal City Ballet’s production of Giselle this spring.

It’s the first time in a decade that the traditional classical ballet – a favourite since its Paris premiere in 1841 – will be onstage in Vancouver.

Coastal City Ballet is a repertory company based in Vancouver that offers performance opportunities for emerging dancers, both Canadian and international.

Among their ranks for Giselle is Burnaby’s own Megan Kinders, a 15-year-old dancer whose training encompasses classical ballet, contemporary, modern, jazz, lyrical and stage. She studied with Danzmode Productions from 2010 to 2015 and has since been training with Pacific Dance Arts. She has also taken part in summer intensive programs with MOVE: The Company.

Giselle will be onstage Friday, May 19 at 8 p.m. at the Vancouver Playhouse, with tickets ranging from $29.95 to $59.95. See www.vtixonline.com or call 604-241-7292.

It then moves to the Surrey Arts Centre for a performance on Friday, June 9 at 8 p.m. Tickets range from $35 to $42. See tickets.surrey.ca or call 604-501-5566.
