The kids are back in school and the weather is getting cooler and crisper now. Though fall is approaching, there is plenty going on in Burnaby this weekend. We're continuing with our popular feature - our staff's Top 5 (Or More) Things To Do This Weekend. Here's our Top 5 list for Sept. 6 to 8.
1 Get honing your child's linguistic skills at the Burnaby French Language Preschool open house and registration event on Saturday from 10 a.m. to noon at the portable at École Marlborough School, 6060B Marlborough Ave. For more information, visit www.bflp.org or call 604-432-1323.
2 Get celebrating the changing seasons at the South Burnaby Garden Club's fall fair on Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 to 4 p.m. at Bonsor Community Centre, 6550 Bonsor Ave. There will be flowers, vegetables, fruit, wine, crafts, baking, canning, hanging baskets, plants and flower arrangements. There will be a tea room, a canning presentation at 2 p.m. on Saturday and the Potato in a Pot contest at 2 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. 3 Get green at the Eco-Centre's open house on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at 4855 Still Creek Ave.
Drop by and celebrate Burnaby's new Eco-Centre. Take a tour of the new recycling facility, learn about where materials go and how they're recycled, and enjoy some live entertainment and refreshments. Parking is limited, but it is right on the Central Valley Greenway, so you can walk, cycle or take transit. Please note interim access to the Eco-Centre is via Regent Street, off of Douglas Road.
4 Get running for a good cause at the Burnaby Hospital Foundation's 15th annual Rhythm of Life: The Run and Walk for Everyone on Sunday. The event raises funds for the hospital's most urgent equipment needs. The public is invited to join the foundation on a run or walk through the trails of Burnaby Lake Regional Park. The event is followed by refreshments, live entertainment and family fun activities. Proceeds support the Healthy Heart Program and purchase equipment. For details and to register, visit www.bhfoundation.ca or call 604-431-2881.
5 Get communing at the community barbecue at Cliff Avenue United Church on Sunday from noon to 1:30 p.m. at 1600 Cliff Ave. All are welcome. For more information, call 604-420-2621 or visit www.cliffavechurch.com.
