Bird of prey: Burnaby NOW reader Martine Arnold sent in this shot of a hawk in the process of killing a mouse. The mouse had been feeding off their feeder, in the yard of their home on Irmin Street. Arnold notes that a neighbour spotted three coyotes on the street the day before, making for a busy few days of wildlife spotting in the area.

Despite the highrises and rush-hour traffic, Burnaby is still a city of parks, trails, lakes and creeks - not to mention the many backyard gardens full of flowers and veggies. Burnaby NOW readers can send in shots to share how they're enjoying the great outdoors here in Burnaby, to cmyers@burnabynow.com, for inclusion in our Great Outdoors gallery.
