Saturday, October 6

Food drive, Comfort Keepers, in association with the Salvation Army, are collecting non-perishable food cans at the two Save-on-Foods Burnaby locations from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Goal is to collect 1,000 cans for this cause.

Monday, October 8

Non-competitive 5K and 10K walk, hosted by local Volkssport club in Central Park. Free for new participants. Info: Verni at 604-682-8390.

Tuesday, October 9

Healthy eating for seniors presentation, 2:30 to 4 p.m. Burnaby Multicultural Society at 6255 Nelson Ave. Canada's revised food guide is reviewed in detail and participants are shown how to use food label information when they choose what they will purchase. A Parade of Royal Fashions Over the Ages, 6:30 p.m. in the church hall at 7591 Gray Ave. South Burnaby United Church women are hosting a dessert and coffee evening featuring Ivan Sayers, former curator of the Vancouver Museum. Admission $5. All are welcome.

St. Thomas More Homecoming 2012, Burnaby Lake West, 5 p.m. STM plays Terry Fox. After the game, people are invited to visit the post-game reception, which will be held in a private room at Burnaby 8Rinks. Tickets to the reception, available in advnace, get you a burger, salad and an adult beverage. There will also be a 50/50 draw in support of Covenant House.
