A cache of allegedly stolen toys, including Lego and Jellycat, as well as other merchandise worth about $150,000 were seized at a Steveston home in late February.
On Feb. 29, Richmond RCMP Property Crime Unit executed a search warrant that resulted in the recovery of more than 1,000 alleged stolen items.
The majority of the items seized comprised of new toys and fashion apparel, RCMP said.
Richmond RCMP PCU started their investigation after receiving tips from the public regarding the potential sale of stolen items advertised online on Marketplace listings.
“There are many enthusiasts from both the Lego and Jellycat communities that are guided by ethical and lawful guidelines. We wish to thank those enthusiasts as well as the other concerned members of the community who assisted us in this investigation,” said Sgt. Russel Yugai, NCO in charge of Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Support Section.
“This investigation sheds light on some dark corners of the retail theft sector – including the popularity and the resale value of such items and where such items end up. Property crime which includes retail theft, remains a steadfast priority for Richmond detachment,” he added.
A 46-year-old man from Richmond was arrested and released on police undertaking with conditions.
This investigation remains active and on-going.
