Homicide team investigating death in Burnaby

Homicide investigators are looking into the death of a young man found in cardiac arrest near Lougheed SkyTrain station Thursday night. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced early this morning they had taken over the investigation.

Homicide investigators are looking into the death of a young man found in cardiac arrest near Lougheed SkyTrain station Thursday night.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team announced early this morning they had taken over the investigation.

According to a media release from the team, Burnaby RCMP and paramedics responded to a call near Austin Road and Lougheed Highway at about 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 6. The victim appeared to be in cardiac arrest and was taken to hospital, where he died shortly after arriving.

Officers from the Burnaby RCMP and the Lower Mainland forensic identification section are on scene now, assisting homicide investigators comb the pathway for evidence of what happened last night, the release added.

Police have yet to release the age or name of the victim,

“We are in the very early stages of this investigation and we are working to establish what happened on this well-travelled path,” said Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau of the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.
