A 29-year-old Port Coquitlam man is facing charges of dangerous driving and criminal flight from police after a Thursday afternoon incident that went through several Lower Mainland communities, including Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond and Vancouver.

At around 5:30 p.m., the RCMP's Air One helicopter observed a motorcycle driving in a dangerous manner while crossing the Pitt River Bridge. Air One maintained visual contact with the motorcycle which was travelling at speeds in excess of 150 km/h on the Lougheed Highway and, later, in excess of 200 km/h on the Trans Canada Highway.

Police vehicles attempted to stop the motorcycle several times, but the rider kept speeding away.

Just before 7 p.m., the motorcycle pulled into the underground parking lot at Metropolis at Metrotown. Ground units then moved in and were able to locate the driver of the motorcycle as he attempted to flee in an SUV driven by a woman. The car was pulled over by Vancouver police officers several blocks later, on Kingsway near Olive Avenue.

A 2012 black Ducati motorcycle was seized from the parking lot of the Metropolis at Metrotown and a 2006 Range Rover SUV was towed after the man was arrested. The woman was released and is not facing charges.
