The Editor:
I'm a grade 9 student at Moscrop Secondary, and I am writing this letter due to the lack of action of previous letters sent from the student body to TransLink.
There is a big problem at Moscrop and it starts and ends with the 130 and 110 bus.
Everyday at 3:05 p.m., people race to make it on time for the three buses at come at 3:06 p.m. Regardless of consequences, people push and shove to make sure they can get home.
The drivers find it hard to make the rules clear because no one listens. Last Friday, April 26, I saw a kid almost get trampled because the bus came a little bit earlier.
The problem is that there aren't enough buses that come. The school also doesn't have a big enough bus shelter.
Just two stops down Willingdon, BCIT has almost three shelters to accommodate students that are older and have more resources to get home.
For Grade 8, 9 and10 students, we can't drive or afford the bus fare to get on. I am fortunate to have an Employee Pass because of my father but others might not have this.
The solution can be very easy:
- Add more 130 buses to the route
- Have the 222 Willingdon express add a stop at Moscrop because it always rides past half empty
- Have a new 130 special bus for students who live in more rural areas, like how the 110 goes in a more housed area
Until one of these days when TransLink will listen to us, I and my fellow students will continue to write letters.
