Pedestrian dies after being struck in New Westminster

New West police investigating pedestrian fatality in Uptown New West on Sunday afternoon

A pedestrian succumbed to injuries sustained in a motor vehicle incident in uptown New West on Sunday afternoon.

New Westminster Police are in the early stages of investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident, in which a pedestrian was struck by the driver of a vehicle. The death occurred in the 700 block of Princess Street around 1:45 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10.

In a news release, the New Westminster Police Department said patrol officers were called to the site regarding an unresponsive pedestrian who had been struck by a driver of a vehicle.  The driver remained at the scene.

Investigators from the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service attended the scene, as did members of the New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit.

“This is a tragic event, and our thoughts are with the family of this individual,” said NWPD spokesperson Sgt. Andrew Leaver in a news release. “We have a large team of investigators working together to determine how this happened, but we are still in the early stages at this point.”
