Making magic: Murray SawChuck returns to his Burnaby roots for a special show at the Shadbolt Centre Dec. 14.

Murray SawChuck is bringing the magic back home.

SawChuck is returning to his Burnaby roots for a show at the Shadbolt Centre for the Arts on Saturday, Dec. 14 - direct from his nightly show at the New Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.

The magician has been making a name for himself internationally - most notably as a semifinalist on America's Got Talent, where he produced a Ferrari from thin air, transformed a girl locked in a cage into a 450-pound tiger, and made a 1918 steam train locomotive vanish in seconds.

He's also currently a guest star on the History Channel TV series Pawn Stars, where he serves as a magic expert.

It's a long way from his childhood in Burnaby, where he attended Inman Elementary and Moscrop Junior Secondary schools before graduating from Burnaby Central Secondary.

He got into magic in childhood, after his uncle gave him a magic kit. By age 12, he was advertising his services as a magician for birthday parties (his first gig was for a relative, and it paid $10).

By 19, he had decided to make magic his profession - and his star has been on the rise ever since.

He now appears regularly on television, on shows such as Hallmark Channel's Home and Family, TLC's What Not To wear and Discovery Television's Top Gear U.S.A.

He has performed in concerts worldwide and has headlined at Hollywood's historic Magic Castle, and he has just celebrated more than a year-and-a-half as a resident show at the Tropicana's Laugh Factory on the Vegas Strip.

Now you have a chance to see him right here at home - but tickets are limited, so buy quickly.

SawChuck's show takes to the stage at 8 p.m. in the Shadbolt's James Cowan Theatre. Call 604-205-3000 or see tickets.shadboltcentre.com to buy tickets.
