It's the end of an era for local punk rock fans.

Burnaby's Joe Keithley, front man of the legendary punk band DOA, has announced the band will play its final show on Friday, Jan. 18 at The Rickshaw Theatre in Vancouver.

"It should be pretty rambunctious and a lot of fun," Keithley said of the final performance, which will bring back many ex-members of the band to play.

In its 35-year history, DOA has released 14 studio albums, as well as numerous EPs and singles.

The Last Show: Punk Legends Say Farewell tour will take DOA through B.C., California and Alberta, ending in Banff on Feb. 24.

Fans can expect to hear numbers from the band's full history, but the focus will be on the best from their top three albums: Something Better Change, Hardcore '81 and War on 45.

Featured guests at The Rickshaw next weekend will include The Rebel Spell, Rampage and Fierce Creep, as well as special appearances by ex-members.

Keithley said the reason DOA is ending its more than three decade run is because of his decision to focus on politics.

Last April, Keithley announced his intention to run for the NDP nomination in the Coquitlam-Burke Mountain constituency.

"I believe I can, and I think I will win the nomination for the riding, and I believe and I think I can win the election," he said. "... If you're going to do something right, you have to put 100 per cent of your energy into it. ... You can't be on tour and be an MLA."

The nomination meeting for the NDP will be held on March 3 in Coquitlam, and the provincial election will be held on May 14.

The Rickshaw Theatre is located at 254 E. Hastings St. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 8:40 p.m. Tickets are available at Northern Tickets, Zulu, Neptoon, Scrape, High Life and Red Cat.
