A 36-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman have been arrested on Burnaby's border with New Westminster after they allegedly stole a car at gunpoint and then crashed into a police car on Sunday afternoon.

Police were called about the carjacking, which started in the Metrotown area.

"Two suspects allegedly confronted a man in the 7200-block of McKay Avenue as he was parking his car. The man produced a gun," said Burnaby RCMP Sgt. Gursharn Ranu. "They took some personal items and took his car keys and then left in his white car."

A few minutes later, a Mountie spotted the car and pursued it towards the Burnaby-New Westminster border.

Everything came to a head near the corner of 10th Street and Sixth Avenue.

The driver of the stolen white car hit a dark SUV and pushed it into the path of a police car that had been set up to block the intersection.

A police officer was taken to hospital after the crash, but her injuries were minor.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. The 36-yearold was trapped in the car and was arrested without incident.

The two will likely face several charges, including armed robbery with a weapon, theft over $5,000 and possession of stolen property.
