The Rotary Coats for Kids campaign is in full swing, and organizers are still looking for more donations to keep local children warm this winter.

"We are grateful for the cash and coat donations received to date from individuals as well as businesses and organizations. Together with cash received last year, we were able to purchase over 400 desperately needed coats," said campaign spokesperson Gloria Tom Wing Staudt. "However, much more is needed."

The annual campaign, spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Burnaby Metrotown, collects donated winter coats with hoods and distributes them to local kids in need.

The campaign uses a truck, which functions as a mobile dressing room, so children can climb aboard and pick a coat they like.

Volunteers have handed out 750 coats this season, and they expect to distribute 500 more by the end of the month.

Campaign volunteers are asking for donations of coats for babies and children up to five years old, and for teenagers, aged 14 to 16.

The volunteers are also accepting cash donations in order to buy more coats to distribute to the kids.

The Rotary Coats for Kids truck will visit local schools until the end of November, but volunteers will continue to collect donations of coats and money anytime.

To make a donation call the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House at 604-431-0400 or email rotarycoatsforkids@gmail.com.
