A new bike parkade is coming to the Metrotown SkyTrain station in Burnaby later this year, giving cyclists more options for their daily commutes.

TransLink says a new bike parkade has now opened at King Edward SkyTrain Station. This is the first bike parkade to open on the Canada Line and the fourth to join the transit network.

May 2018 had by far the most usage of the parkades to date, with nearly 2,600 entries recorded across existing facilities, and nearly 700 entries in Bike to Work Week alone.

Parkades provide a safe, convenient way for customers to store their bikes.

  • Capacity for 26 bikes.
  • Electrical outlets for charging e-bikes.
  • Glass-walled and lit 24 hours a day for visibility.
  • Equipped with video cameras for safety and security.
  • Only customers enrolled in the Bike Parkades program can access the facility.
  • Space is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Customers must use their own lock.

Registering is easy. All you need to do is:

  • Get a Compass Card,
  • Register your card online at compasscard.ca,
  • Enroll in Bike Parkade.

There are currently more than 3,000 kilometres of bike paths and more than 900 kilometres of protected or separated bikeways in the region. Through municipal cost-sharing programs, TransLink contributes up to 50 per cent of eligible capital costs to upgrade roads on the Major Road Network and bicycle infrastructure in Metro Vancouver.

The cost of the King Edward bike parkade is $500,000.
