Brown answers Canada’s call

Matt Brown of Burnaby will be Canada’s offensive coordinator at the 2018 Federation of International Lacrosse men’s world championship in Netanya, Israel July 12 to 21.

The team will be coached by Randy Mearns of St. Catharines, Ont., who was named as head coach of the men’s team at St. Bonaventure University in Allegheny, New York in June. Taylor Wray of Edmonton will be the defensive coordinator. Brown was Wray’s offensive coordinator when Canada came second at the 2016 under-19 men’s world championship held in Coquitlam. They also teamed up at the 2012 U19 event.

Brown is an associate head coach with the University of Denver Pioneers, which won the NCAA Division 1 championship in 2015. He won three Minto Cups playing for his hometown Burnaby Jr. Lakers box lacrosse teams. After playing for the Pioneers he went on to spend five seasons with Major Lacrosse League’s Denver Outlaws, including leading the league in scoring in 2006.

Burnaby Minor Lacrosse will be providing introduction to lacrosse sessions for kids born from 2008 to 2013 starting in January. They will run on Friday evenings, Saturday mornings and Sunday mornings. For more information and to register go to www.burnabylacrosse.com.
