The Burnaby Farmers Market is blooming big this season.

The market, which opens for the season this weekend, is going to include new farmers and vendors, food trucks and more.

“The market’s really grown this year,” said Lyn Hainstock, manager of Artisan Farmers’ Markets. “It’s starting a bit bigger.”

Artisan has established three markets in the region, including the one in Burnaby.

The Burnaby market has a new manager as well – Ron Gorman of Wild West Seafood, she told the NOW.

The amount of farmers who have signed on to take part this summer has doubled to 18, according to Hainstock.

This Saturday, a backyard gardener will be on site with raspberry canes for sale, she said. The market is also bringing back its nutrition program, which helps low-income people by providing nutrition classes and $15 vouchers for the market.

Food trucks this year include Rocky Point Ice Cream, Taste of Malaysia, and Holly Food, Hainstock said.

The book exchange and newspaper reading area will be back as well, she added.

“We want to make the Burnaby market more of a community hub,” she said.

“A lot of people will come, read the local paper, have a cup of coffee,” Hainstock added.

The market takes place on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
