Burnaby Mounties are investigating a weekend shooting that sent one man to hospital.

RCMP were called out to the 7100 block of 14th Avenue late Saturday morning after a man was shot near an apartment complex.

He was taken to hospital but his condition was unknown.

On Monday, police were offering few details about the shooting or the victim, adding the investigation is ongoing.

A NOW photographer was at the scene Saturday, noting there were about eight police cars in the area, with investigators focusing on a particular townhouse unit.

One resident said on her Twitter account she lives right near the unit and heard six shots fired at 11:30 a.m.

None of the information has been confirmed by the police.

Saturday’s incident is just one of a number of shootings in Burnaby since spring.

Back in April, police were called out to an area around the 7300 block of Sandborne Avenue when a resident heard shots ringing out.

After searching the area through the evening, police discovered the body of a man along the trail.

Police offered little details about the case and never identified the victim.

In June, officers were called out to the 3900 block of Forest Street after shots rang out on the residential street. A man was found shot, and after being helped by bystanders in the area, he was taken to hospital where he died an hour later. The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) identified the man as Christopher Alexander Serrano, 29, of Coquitlam. IHIT said he also used the last name of Hurtado.

In July, police were called to the 7000 block of Linden Avenue after a single shot was fired between two vehicles. No one was injured in the incident.

The month of August saw two shootings in Burnaby.

In the first incident, shots were fired in the 7200 block of Arcola Street.

Police said at the time of the Aug. 11 incident, two men were involved in an altercation before the shooting. There was evidence that someone was possibly injured, but a victim never turned up.

A couple weeks later, shots were fired near a home on 12th Avenue. It appeared one person was hit by bullets and taken to hospital, but the victim's condition was unknown.

Then on Oct. 28, one person was sent to hospital after a targeted shooting in the 6000 block of Broadway.

A 44-year-old man inside the vehicle was transported to hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Police also noted the victim was well known to police and is affiliated with an organized crime group.

Two days later, Burnaby RCMP were back out investigating another shooting. A vehicle was shot up in an underground parking lot in the 2000 block of Rosser Avenue.

The person inside the vehicle was uninjured, but police noted the shooting appeared targeted.
