FortisBC is warning about road closures coming to Burnaby as it upgrades its gas lines.
To prepare for this, the utility is holding a special information session for the public this Tuesday, July 17, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Willingdon Community Centre, in the multi-purpose room, 1491 Carleton Ave., Burnaby.
“Businesses along the construction route will remain open, but road and lane closures will be needed,” said a FortisBC news release. “We appreciate the community’s patience while we complete this work. Please join us at our info session to learn more, and ask questions.”
According to the FortisBC website, the Burnaby roads impacted this summer are:
- Lougheed Highway from Madison Avenue to Bainbridge Avenue with ongoing lane closures.
- Broadway from Bainbridge to Underhill Avenue with a full road closure.
In the fall, Broadway from Production Way to North Road will see ongoing lane closures.
The closures have so far affected Douglas Road between Gilmore and Madison. In Vancouver, First Avenue has been most impacted by the upgrades, with many businesses expressing concern.
Construction hours will be Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on. There may also be some overnight and Sunday work required, according to the company.
The project will upgrade 20 kilometres of natural gas line in Burnaby, Coquitlam and Vancouver.
