Four Lower Mainland youth have been charged in connection to the fatal stabbing of a Burnaby teen on Sunday.

Around 12:30 a.m. on May 17, Whistler RCMP received reports of an incident near Main Street. When officers arrived they found Luka Gordic injured. The 19-year-old was taken to a local clinic with life-threatening injuries, and died a short time later, according to a media release from Whistler Mounties.

On Tuesday afternoon, three 17-year-olds were charged with manslaughter in connection to Gordic’s death. Charges were also pending against a fourth suspect at that time.

On Wednesday, the three teens accused in the case appeared in court, where two of them were released on $5,000 bail and are required to abide by a curfew of 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. The third teen was denied bail and could likely remain in custody for months. The names of the accused are not being released because three of the four accused are young offenders.

The fourth suspect is 18 years old and being tried in adult court. Like the three 17 year olds, he is also facing manslaughter charges. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday, after NOW deadlines.

A Facebook page, created in memory of Gordic, describes the Burnaby youth as a kind and respectful young man, one who will be missed by many.

“Our beloved Luka Gordic was murdered by a group of young men on May 17, 2015 in Whistler B.C. We want justice for him as our family grieves,” reads one post.

Gordic graduated from Burnaby Central Secondary School last year.

According to police, Gordic’s death is the result of an altercation between two groups.

While charges have been laid, investigators are still looking to speak with witnesses, Sgt. Stephanie Ashton, spokesperson for the homicide team, said in a media release.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team at 1-877-551-IHIT.
