First impressions of new NDP candidate

Dear Editor I am confident that I am not alone in believing that Kennedy Stewart is one the better Members of Parliament our country currently has. As popular as Stewart is, he is inadvertently doing half the work for Carol Baird Ellen’s campaign.

Dear Editor

I am confident that I am not alone in believing that Kennedy Stewart is one the better Members of Parliament our country currently has.

As popular as Stewart is, he is inadvertently doing half the work for Carol Baird Ellen’s campaign. A large percentage of constituents in the riding of Burnaby North-Seymour are unaware their riding is brand new and that Stewart is not the NDP candidate there. Carol Baird Ellen is the NDP candidate for Burnaby North- Seymour.

This anonymity bodes well for Ellen’s campaign. When she does speak she has been disingenuous to say the least. She claims she strongly opposes the Kinder Morgan pipeline. That is after all what the people of Burnaby North-Seymour want to hear. Yet I have been unable to find a single instance where she has attended any event opposing the pipeline or actively protested against KM.

When I asked her directly on Twitter if she would vote against her party on the pipeline if it came down to it, her reply was “Mulcair’s NDP promises a credible, fair, informed process for assessment, based on expertise and appropriate consultation.”

Pretty straightforward script to copy and paste, No? Ellen was a lawyer and a judge. Her tradecraft was based on being clear and specific. So why can she not give a direct answer?

How can she campaign on the issue that she opposes the Kinder Morgan pipeline? Does Burnaby not deserve to know the true intentions of their NDP candidates?
