The Northwest Giants moved into sole possession of first place in the B.C. major midget hockey league following a weekend sweep of the Northeast Chiefs.
Jarid Lukosevicius had a big weekend, chalking up seven points, including four goals, in the Giants' back-to-back wins over the Chiefs.
Lukosevicius tallied a pair of goals and three assists in the team's 6-0 win at the Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday. He opened the two-game series with two counters, including the eventual game-winning marker in the second period, in a 6-3 win in Coquitlam on Saturday.
The multi-point outings boosted Lukosevicius into second place in league scoring with 11 goals and 15 assists, just five points behind Northeast Chief forward and overall scoring leader Matthew Barzal, who was in Calgary helping Team B.C. win its first-ever under-16 Western Canada Challenge Cup last week.
Jackson Cressey also had a big game, scoring his eighth goal of the year, while piling up three assists in the shutout win. Bo Didur recorded the shutout for the Giants. The 15-year-old rookie currently leads the league with a 9-0-1 record and a 2.20 goals against average.
Brandon Del Grosso popped in a pair of goals in the 6-0 win, while Anthony Conti moved into the top 20 in league scoring with a goal and two helpers.
In Coquitlam, Del Grosso and Colton Kerfoot both chipped in with a goal and an assist.
Zach Landon helped out with two assists, while Burnaby defenceman Connor Pasco also had a helper.
The win gave the Giants top spot in the 11-team standings with a record of 11-0-1, one point ahead of the second-place Cariboo Cougars.
