B.C. biathletes brought home a total of 16 medals, including nine gold, four silver and three bronze from the Cadet National Championships, which wrapped up on March 8 at CFB Valcartier in Quebec. It was a week-long event with two

individual competitions and two team events.

Louisa Tsang of Burnaby won a pair of gold in both the mass start and pursuit races. She also earned a silver medal in the patrol race, while also sharing in a bronze in the relay.

The New Westminster sea cadet was also awarded the Myriam Bedard Award - the aggregrate trophy for the most outstanding 17 to 18-year-old racer in the youth female category.

Tsang, who shot 100 per cent on the shooting range in her first cadet competition of the season in Whistler earlier this year, is a member of the New Westminster 102 Sea Cadets Corps.

All of the 12 elite cadet biathletes on the provincial team medaled at least once. B.C. also tied Quebec in total medals.

Emil Vogel-Nakamura of Vancouver made history crossing the finish line on the first day of mass start competition with her Quebec rival Bisson Gabriel, both finishing at the same time.

Vogel-Nakamura also won silver in relay and a bronze in the patrol race with teammates Lucas Morisette of Port Moody and Kevin Fierling, a resident of North Vancouver and Surrey.

Kimberley Buller of Port Coquitlam won silver in the patrol Race and a bronze in the relay race.

Biathlon is a winter Olympic sport combining freestyle cross-country skiing and small bore marksmanship.
