The Burnaby Lakers are hoping to finish the B.C. Junior Lacrosse League season on a winning streak.

The last-place junior A Lakers are finishing up a second consecutive season under head coach Brad Parker and while the won/lost record over the the two seasons is not stunning, the change in attitude and direction are as positive as any playoff-bound club.

Burnaby defeated the junior Timbermen 12-9 in Nanaimo on Saturday and would dearly love to upset the fourth-place New Westminster Salmonbellies in today’s season-ender at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre.

A win would match the five league games Burnaby won in its initial season under Parker.

In Nanaimo, the Lakers outscored their hosts in each of the three periods in behind big eight-point outings from righthander Aidan Milburn and rookie lefty Mitch McDole. Milburn, with his league-topping 40th goal of the season, and Wyatt Pinder, with the game winner, both led all goal scorers with four markers apiece.

Graham Husick backstopped the win in goal with 37 stops for the Laker juniors. Burnaby has won three of its last eight games.

The Lakers take on the junior Salmonbellies at the Copeland centre, beginning at 7 p.m.
