Burnaby athletes named to B.C. teams to various summer games

Stefan Milosevic of Burnaby was one of 10 Team B.C. swimmers selected to Canada’s entry for the Pan American Games in Toronto. The swim portion of the Games will be held from July 14 to 18.

 

Lake Rower named to u-23 team

Burnaby Lake Rowing Club’s Vlad Timinsky was named to Canada’s lightweight men’s quadruple sculls team for the upcoming World Rowing under-23 championships in Plovdiv, Bulgaria from July 22 to 26.

Canada’s seven u-23 squads will try to better last year’s result, when they won one gold and two bronze medals.

 

Burnaby Lake co- leaders in 7s

The UBCOB Young Bucks defended their Vancouver 7s title, defeating Seattle in extra time in the men’s elite division at Connaught Park last Saturday.

Burnaby Lake bettered hosts Meraloma in the quarter-finals, but were no match for the eventual finalists. The Lakers did earn enough points to keep pace with Seattle for the overall lead in the B.C. Rugby 7s elite men’s standings.

 

Jack Crosby All-star novice lacrosse coming up

The Bill Copeland Sports Centre will be the place to be next week, when it hosts the annual Jack Crosby All-Star novice lacrosse tournament.

A full day’s slate of games will be played from Thursday, July 2 to Saturday, with medal rounds scheduled for Sunday. Kensington Arena will also host random games during that period.

 

Top five best for Burnaby golfers

Leo Harper and Edward Chen of Burnaby both finished fifth in their respective divisions at the recent Canadian Junior Golf Association stop in Chilliwack.

Harper shot an 11-over-par 155 in the boys’ 14-and-under group at the Chilliwack Golf Club on June 14.

Chen fired a 10-over 154, including a one-over-par 73 on the final day in the boys’ 15 to 19 division.

In the girls’ division, Jhunam Sidhu also placed fifth.

 

Gymnast named to Western Canada Summer Games team

Celine May of Burnaby was named to Team B.C. in artistic gymnastics for the Western Canada Summer Games. May, who trains at TAG in Port Coquitlam, was named to the provincial squad following trials in Kelowna earlier in June.

The Summer Games will be held in Wood Buffalo, Alta. in August.
