Erin Chambers came close to a triple-double in Simon Fraser University’s bounce-back win over Colorado Christian on Monday.

The senior Clan forward scored a season-high 34 points and added 10 rebounds and eight assists in SFU’s 90-69 win over the Cougars in an NCAA non-conference women’s basketball game in Burnaby.

The win came on the heels of the Clan’s first loss of the season – an 89-80 defeat to nationally ranked Cal Poly Ponoma on Sunday.

Chambers also led the Clan in scoring against Cal Poly, tallying 28 points, while teammate Katie Lowen nailed seven  three-pointers, including a trey with seven minutes left to play that pulled the home team to within a bucket before the visiting Broncos went on a 13-2 run to seal the victory.

“The numbers are fun and great but it doesn’t really matter to me,” said Chambers in a school press release. “What was more important to me was the way we played, with everyone involved and sharing the ball.”

Meg Wilson made good use of her share, contributing a double-double, with 12 points and as many rebounds in Sunday’s loss and 19 points and five boards the following night.

Cal Poly’s Jada Blackwell – the NCAA Division II preseason player of the year – led the Broncos with 23 points and seven boards.

Broncos’ guard Ariel Marsh posted a game-high 27 points, including four treys, and five assists.

“One of the nice things about back-to-back games is you don’t have to live with a loss too long, if you make up for it the next night. We made up for it tonight. We came focused and intense,” said SFU head coach Bruce Langford in the release.

Div. I Pepperdine University transfer Alisha Roberts of Burnaby came off the bench with six points and three assists in 15 minutes work.

SFU will play its Great Northwest conference season opener at home against rival Western Washington University on Dec. 6.

On that night, SFU will honour the memory of Canadian hero and former alumni Terry Fox by raising a banner displaying his name and the No. 4 that he wore as a member of the Clan junior varsity basketball  team.

The banner-raising ceremony will take place prior to the tipoff of the men’s basketball game, beginning at 7 p.m.
