Simon Fraser University Clan recruit Rachel Fradgley earned a spot on Canada Basketball’s junior women’s basketball team.
"It will be a great experience for Rachel to compete for Canada," said SFU head coach Bruce Langford. "The training for the next few weeks that she gets with a great coaching staff will make her transition to university much easier."
The team is currently in the midst of training camp on the campus of Durham College in Oshawa, Ont., before heading south for their exhibition opener against the United States on Aug. 2.
The team will compete in the FIBA Americas under-18 championship for Women in Colorado Springs. The competition runs from Aug. 6 to Aug. 10.
"The coaching staff is very excited with the team that has been selected, as they are extremely hardworking and they love to play the game,” said head coach Rich Chambers. “We feel in the training camp that we can make great improvements and get ourselves prepared for the FIBA Americas tournament."
After a second exhibition game against Brazil, Team Canada will open the tournament against El Salvador on Aug. 6.
