A set of old records fell as the Simon Fraser University Clan swim team won eight of 11 events at the Clan Cup in Burnaby last week.
SFU finished the three-day meet a powerful 26-for-37 overall, including six new meet records by Clan swimmers, with Gabriel Lee leading the way.
The sophomore from Delta established four new meet marks, including in the 200-metre backstroke on Sunday that saw him break his own record by two-10ths of a second. Lee’s time of 1:59.82 was more than 12 seconds faster than the nearest competitor.
Lee also swam the anchor leg for SFU’s record-shattering 400m freestyle relay team, which peeled nearly two seconds off the previous mark.
Joining Lee in that foursome march were New Westminster’s Justin Kiedrzyn, Colton Peterson and Adrian VanderHelm.
Two days earlier, Kiedrzyn, Lee, Peterson and VanderHelm played a role in both the 400m medley and 200m medley relay record-setting swims.
