The Northwest Giants stayed two points ahead of Northeast Chiefs with comeback win in major midget hockey

The Northwest Giants stayed a point ahead of the Northeast Chiefs following a weekend split against Greater Vancouver in B.C. major midget hockey.

The Giants dropped the opening game of the two-game, home-and-home series 5-2 in Richmond but came back the following day to unseat the fifth-place Canadians 5-3 at the Burnaby Winter Club on Sunday.

Nash Dabb scored the game winner for the Giants, with his second of a pair of goals late in the third quarter. Dabb also scored in the first game.

Austin McQuay, who had three assists in the Giants’ win, also scored in the opener.

Justin Wilson and Keegan Jones both chipped in with a goal and an assist in Sunday’s victory. Josh Latta also had a two-point outing for the second-place Giants.

The Chiefs picked up two points on the second-place Giants, sweeping their weekend series against the North Island Silvertips. League-leading Cariboo had the weekend off.

The regular season wraps up with the Giants traveling to Nelson this weekend for a two-game set against the Kootenay Ice.

Cariboo is in Kelowna against the fourth-place Okanagan Rockets, while the Chiefs are finish up on the road against the lowly 2-33-3 Thompson Blazers.
