Gymnast wins fourth all-around of season

Briannah Tsang won her 11 individual women's artistic gymnastics title of the year in dual meet win over West Virginia

Penn State University freshman Briannah Tsang won an NCAA Division I women’s artistic gymnastics all-around title for a fourth time this season.

The Burnaby gymnast claimed the all-around in a dual meet win over the University of West Virginia last Sunday.

Tsang placed among the top-three finishers in all four disciplines. The rookie posted her second-highest all-around score of the season at 39.475 and posted a career-best 9.900 on the uneven bars to finish second overall on the event. She also won her 11th individual event title of the year, when she tied for the top spot on the vault at 9.850.

The former Flicka Gymnastic Club athlete also tied for second on the balance beam with a 9.850 score and third on the floor exercise with 9.875.

Tsang’s placings helped Penn State post the 11th-highest score in program history, propelling the No. 11-ranked Nittany Lions team a 196.750-195.900 victory over West Virginia at the WVU Coliseum.

The team score tied for the 11th-highest score in program history with the 1999 team’s showing versus Florida, and is the fourth-highest road score in Penn State history.

The Nittany Lions posted the top team score on all four events for the seventh time this season, including a season-best 49.300 on the uneven bars.

The Nittany Lions will close out the regular season in Minneapolis for the B1G Five Meet on Saturday, when Penn State will compete with No. 16 host Minnesota, along with No. 25 Iowa, No. 5 Michigan and Rutgers.

The Big 10 conference championships will be held the following week on the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor.
