Late goal gives Burnaby a u14 win

It was a little too close for comfort, but the coaches of the Burnaby District FC soccer team will take it.

It was a little too close for comfort, but the coaches of the Burnaby District FC soccer team will take it.

A last-minute marker from Stefano Dal Sasso, finishing off a nice pass from forward Benoit Lutz, lifted Burnaby to a 1-0 win over Fraser Valley in under-14 boys metro action last week.

Lutz took a pass and proceeded to beat a Valley defender before slotting a pass to Dal Sasso for the game-winning setup.

While Fraser Valley dominated at points in the game, the boys from Burnaby didn't break. The Valley opponents rang three shots off the post during the 90-minute contest, but the defence stood its ground. Helping solidify the defence was forward Haniel Cruz, who slid to the backline to keep the game close. Turning in strong efforts for Burnaby were midfielders Kyle Beech and Jack Bremner and a complete effort by the defensive line. With the win, Burnaby improved to 7-2-1, good for second place in Div. 1.
